Building a Santa Clara court on rock
Some Santa Clara lots dig easily. Others hit rock a short way down, whether it's dark lava rock from the old flows nearby or the red sandstone the area is known for. Which one you have decides a lot about how the court gets built.
Rock isn't all bad news. Solid rock is a firm foundation, and a slab on it is unlikely to settle. The challenge is getting the site level: high spots may need to be broken out, and low spots filled with compacted base so the slab sits evenly across the whole court. Hoop and post footings in rock are planned with the same care, since they have to be set solid.
That is why the site assessment matters so much here. Before any plan is final, we look at the lot, the slope and any rock showing at the surface, and talk through what the excavation is likely to involve.
Rock changes how water behaves, too. It doesn't soak up rain, so storm water runs across it fast. The court is graded so that water moves around and off the slab, and the post-tension slab, with its tensioned steel cables, keeps the concrete in one tight piece.
Then the fun part. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix goes on in whatever colors you pick, and in Santa Clara a court framed by red rock looks good in almost any color. Add Dominator LED lights for warm evenings and a bench to watch the light change on the hills.
Santa Clara is just 3 miles from our Southern Utah crew's base in Ivins, one of the closest towns we serve, and we build in St. George and Washington as well. Estimates are free.

Questions
Asked in Santa Clara
What if we hit rock when digging?
It happens here. High spots may be broken out and low spots filled with compacted base so the slab sits level.
Is rock a good base for a court?
Solid rock is firm and unlikely to settle, which is good. The work is in getting it level.
How does water drain on rocky ground?
Rock doesn't absorb water, so the court is graded to send storm runoff around and off the slab.
Which colors look good with the red rock?
Almost any. Blues and greens contrast with the red, while warm reds and tans blend in. Try them in our court designer.
