A Nephi court for high-desert swings
Nephi gets the full range: hot, dry summer afternoons, cold nights, and real winters with snow. Even in a single day, the temperature can swing a long way between noon and midnight. A court that ignores that range will show it within a few seasons.
Concrete grows a little when it warms and shrinks when it cools. Over thousands of cycles, that movement is what cracks an ordinary slab. A post-tension slab handles it better: steel cables run through the concrete and are tensioned after it cures, squeezing the slab so the cracks that do form stay tight instead of opening.
The base matters just as much. A slab on a well-compacted, well-drained base moves evenly. One on soft or wet ground moves unevenly, and that is when sections lift or sink. So the site is assessed, excavated, compacted and graded before any concrete arrives.
The surface is Sports Master acrylic sand-mix, laid in layers in your colors, with regulation lines for the sports you want.
Wind is part of the high desert too. Gusts can carry dust onto the court and push a ball off line, so windscreens on the fence and solid, sleeve-set net posts are worth considering.
In a smaller town, a backyard court can become a neighborhood spot, so think about fencing to keep balls in, a bench or two, and Dominator LED lights for summer evenings, when the heat finally breaks.
