A Farmington court built for the east winds
Most days, wind is a small thing on a court. In Farmington, now and then, it isn't, and those are the days a court shows how well it was put together. Strong downslope winds come off the mountains, and anything loose in one yard can end up in the next.
So in Farmington, the court is set up so nothing important is loose. Net posts set in sleeves in the slab hold steady, and a permanent net stays put. Fence posts are set solid, and hoops are in-ground systems anchored in concrete, which keeps them standing when the gusts hit. A portable pickleball net, a bench or a rebounder is easy to carry into the garage when a wind warning comes.
Windscreens need the most thought. They cut everyday wind and glare well, but in a big wind event a solid screen acts like a sail and puts heavy force on the fence. Screens with wind vents help, and on the strongest days the safest move is to unhook them until it passes.
Wind also blows grit, leaves and branches onto the court. A quick sweep or blow-off after a windy day keeps that debris from wearing the surface, or staining it once it gets wet.
The court itself starts with excavation and grading so water drains away, then a post-tension slab with its cables tensioned to hold the concrete together, then Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in your colors and regulation lines for the sports you play.
Our Northern Utah crew comes up from Mapleton for Farmington jobs and also builds in Kaysville, Bountiful and Layton. Estimates are free, and it helps to tell us which way the strongest winds hit your yard.

Questions
Asked in Farmington
Will the east winds damage a court?
The slab and surface aren't at risk from wind. What needs care is anything tall or loose: windscreens, portable nets and furniture.
Should windscreens come down in a wind warning?
On the strongest days, yes. A solid screen acts like a sail on the fence. Vented screens help, but unhooking them is the safest choice.
Permanent or portable pickleball net in Farmington?
A permanent net on sleeve-set posts stays put in the wind. A portable net works too, if you carry it in before a windstorm.
How do we clean up after a windy day?
Sweep or blow off grit, leaves and branches so they don't wear the surface or stain it when wet.
