Sizing a basketball court in Layton
A regulation high school court is 84 by 50 feet, which is more than most backyards can give. Very few home courts are full size, and they don't need to be. What matters is that the parts players use most are right.
Start with the free-throw line. It sits 15 feet from the face of the backboard, and getting that distance right is what makes practice at home carry over to a real game. The lane, or key, is 12 feet wide on a high school court, and painting it in its own color makes it easy to see.
The three-point arc is where size starts to bite. A high school arc is 19 feet 9 inches from the center of the basket, so a court that includes it needs real depth. If the yard is short, the arc can be left off or drawn to fit, and the court is still a good one for shooting and small games.
Then the hoop. A fixed regulation hoop is for players who want the real thing at 10 feet every time. An adjustable hoop moves down for younger players. A breakaway rim gives a little when someone dunks or hangs on it, which protects the backboard.
The slab under it all is post-tension concrete on a base that has been excavated and graded to drain, and the surface is Sports Master acrylic sand-mix. Lines go on last, measured and painted to the size you chose.
Our Northern Utah crew comes from Mapleton and builds across Davis County, from Kaysville to Bountiful. The estimate is free, and we'll measure your yard to show what size court fits.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions
Asked in Layton
How big is a full basketball court?
A high school court is 84 by 50 feet. Most home courts are smaller and still play well when the key and the free-throw line are right.
How far is the free-throw line from the backboard?
Fifteen feet from the face of the backboard. We measure it exactly so practice at home carries over.
Can a short yard still have a three-point line?
A high school arc needs 19 feet 9 inches from the basket. If the yard is shorter, the arc can be left off or drawn to fit.
Should the key be a different color?
It helps. A key in its own color is easy to see and makes the court look finished.
