Building a court for St. George sun and soil
A court in St. George can see as much play in January as in May, so it is worth building right the first time. Our Southern Utah crew works out of Ivins, a short drive from most St. George yards.
Every job starts on the ground. Soil changes from one yard to the next in Washington County, and some of it is clay or gypsum that swells or settles when it gets wet. So before any digging we walk the site, then excavate and grade it with a slope that carries water off the court. The summer storms that drop a lot of rain in an hour are exactly when you find out whether a court drains.
The slab underneath is post-tension concrete. Steel cables run through it and are pulled tight after it cures, which keeps the concrete squeezed together so small cracks stay closed instead of spreading. The playing surface is Sports Master acrylic sand-mix, mixed in your colors and finished with regulation lines: pickleball, basketball, tennis, or several of them sharing one slab.
Color matters more here than in most places. A lighter surface stays cooler underfoot on a July afternoon than a dark one, and it is worth seeing a few combinations side by side before you choose. If you want the court softer on knees and ankles, we are certified installers of AT Sports CushionX, a rubber cushion mat laid under the acrylic.
A lot of St. George play happens after the sun drops. Dominator LED lights, with a timer or a remote if you want one, let you start a game when the heat breaks. We also add nets, in-ground hoops and fencing, and we repair and resurface older courts whose color has faded or whose cracks have opened up.
Estimates are free. Tell us what you play, how much yard you have, and whether an HOA has to sign off, and we will show you what fits.

Questions
Asked in St. George
Which crew builds courts in St. George?
Our Southern Utah crew, based in Ivins, about 8 miles away. It builds and resurfaces courts across Washington County, including Washington, Santa Clara and Hurricane.
Will the court get too hot to play on in summer?
Any outdoor court warms up in the sun, but a lighter color stays noticeably cooler than a dark one. Dominator LED lights also let you play once the heat breaks.
Our yard has clay soil. Can we still have a court?
Usually, yes. That is why every job starts with a site assessment, then excavation and grading so the slab sits on a prepared base and water drains off it.
Can you put pickleball lines on our old tennis or basketball court?
Yes. We repair the cracks, resurface the court in Sports Master acrylic and paint new regulation lines, including pickleball lines alongside the ones you already have.
What is CushionX?
AT Sports CushionX is a rubber cushion mat laid under the court's acrylic surface so it plays softer. We are certified CushionX installers, and it can go over concrete or asphalt.
