Custom Court Builders in Washington, UT

Washington City grew from a pioneer cotton-mill town into one of the fastest-growing places in Southern Utah. Many of its yards are desert-landscaped, and a court has to fit in with the rock, gravel and drip lines.

Fitting a court into a Washington desert yard

Desert landscaping and a court can live together well, but they need to be planned together. Rock, gravel and decomposed granite look good around a court; the trouble starts when they end up on it.

Loose gravel kicked or blown onto the surface gets ground in under shoes and scratches the acrylic. A clean edge helps: a border of larger rock, pavers or a curb between the gravel and the slab keeps the small stuff where it belongs. Keep the gravel a little lower than the court, too, so storm water carries it away from the surface, not onto it.

Drip irrigation is the other piece. Lines that feed shrubs and trees near the court should be rerouted around the slab before the work starts, and set so they never wet the surface. A court in a desert yard should stay dry between games.

The court itself is built for Southern Utah sun: a site assessment, excavation and grading to drain, a post-tension slab, and Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in colors that suit the yard. Tans, sage greens and desert blues look at home next to red rock and gravel.

Many Washington neighborhoods, such as Coral Canyon, have HOAs with rules about yards, so check what's allowed before you build. We can supply the size, placement and colors to submit.

Evenings are when most desert play happens. Dominator LED lights on a timer let you wait out the heat, and windscreens can block the low afternoon sun on one side.

Our Southern Utah crew is based in Ivins, about 10 miles away, and builds throughout Washington County, including St. George and Hurricane. Estimates are free.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."
