Room for a full tennis court in Heber City
A tennis court is the biggest backyard court there is. The doubles lines are 78 by 36 feet, and players need room behind the baselines and beside the sidelines, so the whole court takes a space of about 60 by 120 feet. In much of the Wasatch Front that is out of reach. On a Heber Valley lot it may not be.
A court that size is a serious build. The ground is excavated and graded across the whole footprint so water runs off evenly, a post-tension slab is poured in one piece, and the surface is Sports Master acrylic sand-mix with tennis lines painted to regulation. Tennis net posts go in at the center, with the center strap set to the right height.
A full court doesn't have to be tennis only. Pickleball lines can be added in a contrasting color, with room for up to four pickleball courts on the same surface, and a basketball hoop at one end turns it into a true multi-sport court.
At about 5,600 feet, Heber gets cold winters and cool nights even in summer. That makes drainage and the slab's strength the priorities, and it means building happens in the warm months, when concrete and acrylic can cure properly.
A court this big also needs fencing. Tall fencing around a tennis court keeps balls in play, and windscreens on it cut the wind across an open valley and give players a cleaner background to see the ball against.
