Custom Court Builders in Pleasant Grove, UT
In Pleasant Grove, Utah's City of Trees, a backyard court is often a family court. When little kids will be on it, safety shapes the design as much as the sport does.

A safer family court in Pleasant Grove
Kids play differently from adults. They run without looking, fall more, and chase balls wherever they go. A court built with that in mind is one parents can relax around.
Grip comes first. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix has fine sand blended into the coating, which gives the surface texture underfoot, so shoes grip rather than slide. That texture is a big part of why an acrylic court is safer to run on than smooth concrete.
Then padding. Pole and backboard pads cover the places players are most likely to run into, and an adjustable hoop can be lowered so young kids shoot at a height that suits them. For a softer surface overall, we are certified CushionX installers: its rubber cushion mat under the acrylic makes falls a little kinder.
Fencing does two jobs on a family court. It keeps balls from rolling into the street or a neighbor's yard, and it keeps small kids from chasing them there. A gate placed where parents can see it helps too.
Water matters for safety as well. Puddles on a court are slick, so the base is excavated and graded with enough fall to drain, and the post-tension slab is poured so water runs off instead of pooling. Keep sprinklers off the court, too, so it is dry when the kids come out.
Lights help after dark: Dominator LED lights mean nobody is playing in the half-light, when trips and collisions happen. A bench at the side gives younger kids a place to sit out while the older ones play.

Questions
Asked in Pleasant Grove
Is an acrylic court slippery?
Not when it's dry. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix has fine sand blended in, which gives the surface grip underfoot.
How can we make a court safer for little kids?
Pole and backboard pads, an adjustable hoop, fencing with a gate you can see, and good lights after dark.
Does a cushioned surface help when kids fall?
A CushionX rubber mat under the acrylic makes the court softer underfoot, so falls are a little kinder. We are certified CushionX installers.
Why does drainage matter for safety?
Standing water is slick. A court graded to drain dries quickly after rain or sprinklers.
