Custom Court Builders in Hurricane, UT
Hurricane got its name when a whirlwind blew the top off a pioneer's buggy, and wind and sand still shape life here. A court in Hurricane is built on sandy ground and kept clear of blowing sand.

A Hurricane court on sandy ground
Hurricane sits on the road to Zion, below the Hurricane Cliffs and near Sand Hollow, and plenty of it is built on sand. Sandy soil drains well, which is good for a court, but loose sand shifts under weight. So the base has to be excavated and compacted carefully, layer by layer, until it is firm enough to carry a slab without settling.
On that base goes a post-tension slab. Its steel cables are tensioned after the concrete cures, holding the slab in compression so it stays in one tight piece through hot days, cool nights and the occasional flash storm.
Blowing sand is the other half of the story. Wind carries fine sand onto the court, and sand under shoes wears an acrylic surface faster than almost anything. Windscreens on the fence cut down how much blows in, and they block wind and glare at the same time.
Clean it often. A leaf blower clears sand in a few minutes; do it before you play, not after, so nobody grinds it into the surface. Landscaping that holds the ground around the court, such as rock or desert plants instead of bare sand, keeps more of it in place.
Hurricane is growing fast, with new homes on land that was open desert not long ago. If your yard is new, the court can go in before the landscaping, while the crew can get in easily.
The surface itself is Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in your colors, with lines for pickleball, basketball or tennis. A lighter color stays cooler in the summer sun, and Dominator LED lights let you play after the heat of the day.

Questions
Asked in Hurricane
Can you build a court on sand?
Yes. Sandy soil drains well, but it is compacted layer by layer until it is firm enough to carry the slab.
How do we keep blowing sand off the court?
Windscreens on the fence cut down how much blows in, and a quick blow-off before you play keeps it from wearing the surface.
Why blow it off before playing, not after?
Sand under shoes grinds into the acrylic. Clearing it first protects the surface.
What landscaping helps?
Rock or desert plants around the court hold the ground in place better than bare sand.
Which crew covers Hurricane?
Hurricane is about 22 miles from Ivins, home of our Southern Utah crew, which builds in Washington and St. George too.
