Custom Court Builders in Cottonwood Heights, UT

Cottonwood Heights sits at the mouths of Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons, which means big winters and summer evenings cooled by canyon air. A court here is built for the snow and enjoyed when it's gone.

A Cottonwood Heights court for after ski season

For a lot of households here, winter belongs to the canyons. A backyard court is the warm-weather half of that life: somewhere to play from the spring melt until the storms come back. It also gives the skiers in the family something to train on when the lifts are closed.

Living this close to the mountains means more snow than most of the valley, and the court has to handle it. The slab is graded with enough fall to drain meltwater, and the ground around it is shaped so runoff from higher yards passes by instead of across. A post-tension slab, with steel cables tensioned through the concrete, keeps freeze-thaw cracks tight.

Where the snow goes matters as much as where it falls. Driveway snow piled on the court melts slowly and keeps the surface wet long after the rest of the yard has dried, so pick a spot for snow storage that isn't the slab. If you clear the court itself, a plastic blade is gentlest on the acrylic.

Building happens in the warm months. Concrete and acrylic both need dry ground and mild temperatures, so courts here go in between the last spring storm and the first fall one.

Summer evenings cool quickly as air flows down from the canyons, which makes them a comfortable time to play. Dominator LED lights let the game keep going after sunset, and a timer handles turning them off.

On top goes a Sports Master acrylic sand-mix surface, colored to your choice and striped for pickleball, basketball, tennis or several together. Our Northern Utah crew comes from Mapleton and builds in nearby Holladay, Sandy and Murray. Estimates are free, and spring is the time to ask if you want to play by summer.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Cottonwood Heights

Can a court handle the snow here?

Yes, when it is built for it: enough fall to drain meltwater, runoff from uphill sent around it, and a post-tension slab that keeps cracks tight.

Where should we pile driveway snow?

Anywhere but the court. Piled snow keeps the surface wet long after the yard dries out.

When can a court be built here?

In the warm, dry months, between the last spring storm and the first fall one. Ask in spring to be playing by summer.

Are lights worth it?

Summer evenings are the most comfortable time to play here, and Dominator LED lights keep the court usable after sunset.
