Red dust and color choice on a Santa Clara court
Santa Clara sits among red sandstone hills and black lava rock, and the red is everywhere, including in the dust. Wind and summer storms carry it onto courts, where it works into the sand texture. Over time, a light-colored court takes on a pinkish tint that rinsing won't fully lift, and lines lose their bright white.
