Custom Court Builders in Sandy, UT

Sandy climbs from the valley floor toward the Wasatch, and plenty of east-side yards slope. A court has to play level, so in Sandy the real work is turning a slope into a flat, well-drained pad.

Building a level court on a Sandy slope

On the east side of Sandy, a backyard that looks flat can drop a few feet from one corner to another. A court can't follow that slope. It needs a nearly level surface with just enough fall to carry rain and snowmelt off one side.

Getting there means moving earth. On a sloped lot we cut into the high side, build up the low side, and compact what we place so it doesn't settle later. How much needs to move is one of the first things we measure at the site assessment, because it shapes both the plan and the cost.

Water from above is the other thing a slope brings. When the yard uphill drains toward the court, every storm and every spring melt sends water across the slab. Grading the ground around the court so that water goes around it, not over it, protects the surface for years. If water needs a path past the court toward the street or a lower part of the yard, that path is planned before the concrete goes in, not after the first storm.

With the pad ready, we pour a post-tension slab, where tensioned steel cables hold the concrete together, then lay Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in your colors and paint regulation lines for pickleball, basketball, tennis or a mix.

A slope can work in your favor, too. A court set below the house is easy to watch from a deck or a window, fencing keeps balls from rolling downhill into the yard below, and a courtside bench gives everyone a spot to sit and watch. Our Northern Utah crew comes from Mapleton, and we also build next door in Draper and Cottonwood Heights. Estimates are free.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Sandy

My Sandy yard slopes. Can it still have a court?

Usually. We cut the high side, build up the low side and compact it, so the court sits on a level, drained pad.

Will water from uphill run across the court?

Not if the ground around it is graded to send that water around the slab. Where water comes from is checked during the site assessment.

Does a sloped yard cost more?

Moving more earth adds work, so a steeper yard usually costs more than a flat one. The free estimate shows how much.

Can fencing stop balls from rolling downhill?

Yes. Court fencing around the slab keeps balls on the court instead of in the yard below.
