One Layton slab for pickleball and hoops
Layton families rarely agree on one sport. If the teenagers want a hoop and the adults have caught the pickleball bug, a dual court settles it: a regulation pickleball court with a basketball key painted at one end and a hoop just beyond it.
The two games share the slab without getting in each other's way. Pickleball lines and the key are painted in different colors, so each game reads clearly, and an in-ground adjustable hoop with a pinlock lets kids and adults use the same basket. A breakaway rim is worth adding if anyone in the house likes to hang on it.
The build is the same as any of our courts. We look at the yard, excavate, grade for drainage, and pour a post-tension concrete slab; the cables running through it are tensioned after the concrete sets, so minor cracks stay tight. Then come three colors of Sports Master acrylic sand-mix, one each for the court, the key and the border.
A permanent pickleball net on sleeve-set posts, chain-link fencing to stop rebounds rolling into the street, and Dominator LED lights complete it. We come up about 68 miles from Mapleton, home of our Northern Utah crew, and Layton estimates are free.

Can a pickleball court also have a basketball hoop?
Yes. On a dual court the pickleball lines take up the slab and a basketball key with a hoop sits at one end, each game in its own color.
Which hoop suits a family court?
An in-ground adjustable hoop. Its pinlock height adjustment lets kids and adults share one basket, and a breakaway rim protects the rim and backboard from hard dunks.
Do the two sets of lines get confusing?
Not when they are different colors. Players quickly learn to see only the lines for the game they are playing.
