A Cottonwood Heights court that dries out fast
Cottonwood Heights gets real snow, and when it melts in spring the water has to go somewhere. On a court it goes wherever the pad tells it to. A court that sheds water dries out fast and is ready for the first warm afternoon; one that doesn't holds a puddle at the free-throw line long after the snow is gone.
That is decided before any concrete goes in. We look at how water already moves across the yard, especially on lots that slope down from the east side, then grade the pad so the finished court has a slight, even fall toward where water should go. Where a yard needs more help, subsurface drainage carries water away below the surface.
The slab itself is post-tension concrete. Its steel cables are drawn tight after the pour has set, which squeezes the slab and keeps freeze-thaw cracks from opening. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix finishes it in the colors you pick.
For the hoop, Dominator basketball equipment is built for outdoor use, which matters where a backboard spends its winters in the snow. A family with a Brighton High player and younger kids can share one adjustable hoop. Cottonwood Heights is about 37 miles from our Mapleton base, and the estimate is free.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions
Asked in Cottonwood Heights
Where does snowmelt go on a Cottonwood Heights court?
Wherever the grading sends it. We set a slight, even fall across the pad so melt runs off one side instead of pooling, and add subsurface drainage where a yard needs it.
Can the hoop stay out through the winter?
It is made for it. Dominator hoops and backboards are built for outdoor use, wind and temperature swings included.
How soon in spring can we play?
As soon as the court is clear and dry. A court that drains well dries quickly once the snow has melted.
Does the cold crack the slab?
Freeze and thaw are hard on concrete. In a post-tension slab, tightened steel cables keep the concrete in compression so small cracks stay closed.
