A Hurricane court for a house full of guests

With Sand Hollow State Park on one side and the road to Zion National Park on the other, Hurricane homes see a lot of visitors: grown kids home for a week, friends in town for the trails, or paying guests at a vacation rental. Pickleball suits all of them. It is quick to learn, needs little gear, and players of every age can share a court.

A court that guests will use should be simple to run. A permanent net on sleeve-set posts is always at the right height, Dominator LED lights on a timer switch themselves off, and paddles can wait on a courtside bench. Chain-link fencing with windscreens keeps balls in the yard and cuts some of the wind and blowing grit that Hurricane is known for.

Under it all is a careful build. We walk the site, excavate the sandy ground and grade the base so water drains away, then pour a post-tension slab, tightening the steel inside after curing so cracks stay small. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix tops it, painted with regulation lines, 20 by 44 feet, in colors you pick.

From Ivins, where our Southern Utah crew is based, Hurricane is roughly a 22-mile drive. There is no charge for the estimate.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Hurricane

Is a pickleball court a good fit for a vacation rental?

It is easy for guests to use: the game is simple to learn, the gear is light, and a permanent net and timed lights mean nothing to set up or switch off.

Can the lights switch off on their own?

Yes. Dominator LED court lights can run on a timer, so they go dark at an hour you set.

How do you build on Hurricane's sandy ground?

We excavate and prepare a proper base for the slab, grade it to drain, and pour post-tension concrete on top.

Do you build in Hurricane?

Yes. Our Southern Utah crew, based in Ivins, builds across Washington County, Hurricane included.
