A Spanish Fork court that stands up to canyon wind
Spanish Fork Canyon funnels air down into the valley, which is why a row of wind turbines stands at its mouth. Homes nearer the canyon feel it most, and a sport court there needs to be planned for gusty days. A pickleball drifts, a tennis ball sails, and an unfenced court loses balls to the neighbors' yards.
So the fence comes first in the design. Chain-link around the court keeps play contained, and windscreens on the sides that face the canyon break up the gusts and cut glare. Where the house or a row of trees can shelter one end, we use that too when placing the slab.
Beneath it, the court is built the way all of ours are. The pad is excavated and graded to drain, and the post-tension slab has tendons tightened after it cures, so it holds together through the valley's cold snaps. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix comes next, with lines for every game you play in colors of their own.
A fixed regulation hoop on an anchor kit holds steady in the wind better than a portable stand, and Dominator LED lights let you play once the evening cools off. Spanish Fork is about 4 miles from our Mapleton base, and estimates are free.

Questions
Asked in Spanish Fork
Is the canyon wind a problem for a Spanish Fork court?
It's something to plan for, especially nearer the canyon. Fencing keeps balls in, windscreens break up gusts, and placing the court in the lee of the house helps.
What kind of hoop handles wind?
A fixed regulation hoop or an in-ground adjustable hoop set on an anchor kit stays put; a portable stand can tip or wobble in strong gusts.
Do windscreens come with logos?
They can. Windscreens can be printed with your name or logo while doing their job of cutting wind and glare.
Is Spanish Fork in your crew's regular area?
Very much so. Our Northern Utah crew is based in Mapleton, about 4 miles away.
