Building a Provo court on Lake Bonneville gravel
One of the ancient shorelines of Lake Bonneville carries Provo's name, and the benches above the city are made of what that lake left behind: gravel, sand and rounded cobbles. That kind of ground drains well, which is good for a court, but it can be slow to dig, and big rocks have to come out before a pad can be graded smooth.
So on a Provo bench lot we expect heavier excavation, then a carefully graded base with a slight fall for runoff. The slab is post-tension concrete; steel strands inside it are tensioned after it cures, which keeps it compressed and resists the cracking that freeze and thaw cause.
On top goes the part your family sees: Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in the colors you choose, and lines for basketball, pickleball, tennis or volleyball, each in its own. Colors can match a team, the house, or nothing but your own taste, and a custom logo can be painted in.
Finish with a Dominator hoop, nets, fencing, windscreens and LED lights. Provo is only about 9 miles from Mapleton, so a design visit is easy to fit in, and estimates are free.

Does gravelly ground on the Provo bench cause problems?
It drains well, which helps, but cobbles and large rocks make excavation slower. They come out before the pad is graded smooth and the slab is poured.
Can we match the court to team colors?
Yes. Sports Master acrylic comes in many colors, lines can be painted in contrasting shades, and a custom logo can go into the surface.
Which games can share a Provo court?
Basketball, pickleball, tennis and volleyball can share a slab when there's room, each with lines in a different color. On a smaller lot, pickleball plus a half-court key is a good pair.
