What resurfacing looks like at a Taylorsville home

A resurface is a lighter job than building a court, with no digging and no concrete to pour, but it still changes how the yard works for a short stretch. Knowing what happens helps you plan around it. Before the crew arrives, clear everything off the court and away from its edges: chairs, portable hoops, toys, pots and anything the kids have parked there.

The first visit is prep. The court is cleaned, loose coating is scraped away, and cracks and low spots are repaired. Repairs need to set before coating, so there can be a gap before the next step. Then the Sports Master acrylic goes on in layers, each one allowed to dry before the next, and the lines are painted last.

While that happens, keep people, pets and sprinklers off the surface. Water on a fresh coat leaves marks, so it helps to shut off any zone that reaches the court until we say the surface is ready. Taylorsville sits along the Jordan River, and riverside trees shed seeds in spring, so we watch what the wind is carrying when we pick coating days.

When we finish, we will tell you when the court is ready for play and how to keep it clean. Our Northern Utah crew, which drives in from Mapleton roughly 42 miles south, recoats courts in West Valley City and Murray as well.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Taylorsville

How should we get our Taylorsville court ready for the crew?

Clear everything off it and back from its edges, and make sure the crew can reach it through a gate. Turning off sprinklers that hit the court is the other big one.

Why do the coats go on separately?

Each layer of acrylic has to dry before the next goes on, or the surface won't bond and wear evenly. Weather sets the pace, so we plan coating around dry, mild days.

When can we play on it again?

Once the last coat and the lines have dried properly. It depends on the weather, so we tell you when the court is ready rather than guessing ahead of time.

Is there much noise or mess?

Much less than a build. There is no excavation or concrete pour, just cleaning, repairs and coating. Expect some noise during cleaning and crack prep, and very little after that.
