Trading Taylorsville lawn for a pickleball court
Many Taylorsville homes were built when a big lawn was the whole point of a backyard. Today that grass mostly costs water and Saturday mornings. Replacing part of it with a pickleball court gives the space a job: a regulation court is 20 feet by 44, and the playing area around it about 30 by 60, which is less lawn than most people expect to give up.
Taking out turf is the easy part. Underneath, we check how the yard drains, since a lawn soaks up water that a court will shed. We excavate, set the grade so runoff heads to the grass that remains, and pour a post-tension slab. The cables in that concrete are tensioned once it has cured, holding hairline cracks shut.
Then the color goes on: Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in the shades you pick, with crisp regulation lines and a contrasting kitchen if you want one. A permanent net on sleeve-set posts, a bench along the side and fencing finish the space.

Questions
Asked in Taylorsville
How much lawn does a pickleball court replace?
About 30 by 60 feet for the full playing area of one court. The lines themselves are 20 by 44.
Where does the water go once the lawn is gone?
We grade the court so rain runs off toward the grass or beds that remain, and plan any extra drainage the site needs.
Can we keep part of the lawn around the court?
Yes. Most yards keep a strip of grass or a garden bed around the court, and we plan the slab edges and fencing to suit.
What finishes the court once the slab is in?
Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in your colors, regulation lines, and the net. Fencing, lights and a bench can be added at the same time.
