A Bountiful court that faces the afternoon sun
Homes on Bountiful's east bench look west across the valley, which is why the sunsets are so good. A court on that slope gets the same view and the same sun: hours of strong afternoon light, all summer long. That is what fades a court here. The color slowly bleaches, the lines lose their edge, and the surface hardens and polishes until it no longer grips.
Bountiful is also one of Utah's older cities, and some of its courts have had more than one resurface already. Each one adds layers, so we check that the old coatings are still firmly attached to the slab before adding more. A new coat laid over a layer that is letting go will only peel with it. Anything loose comes off, cracks are repaired and low spots are filled.
Then the new Sports Master acrylic goes down with sand for traction, and the lines are painted fresh. If your court faces the afternoon sun, a lighter color stays cooler to the touch, and windscreens on the fence cut glare as well as wind.

Why does our Bountiful court fade more on one side?
The part that takes the most afternoon sun gets the most ultraviolet light, so it fades first. A resurface renews the whole surface so the color is even again.
Our court has been resurfaced before. Can it be done again?
Usually. We check that the existing layers are still holding tight, remove anything loose, repair cracks and then add new coats. A sound court can be resurfaced more than once.
Do windscreens help with sun as well as wind?
Yes. Besides blocking wind, a windscreen on the fence takes the glare off a low sun, and it can be printed with your name or logo. Windscreens mount on chain-link court fencing.
