A pickleball court on a Bountiful terrace
Bountiful's east bench rises steeply, and many backyards there were built in levels: a patio, a lawn, a garden below a retaining wall. A pickleball court needs a flat area of about 30 by 60 feet, and sometimes one of those terraces is nearly there already.
Nearly is the important word. At the site walk we measure each level, look at the walls that hold it, and see where water from the terraces above ends up. If a terrace is close, we excavate and grade it to a level pad with a gentle fall, and add subsurface drainage where runoff from higher up would otherwise cross the court.
A post-tension slab goes on that pad. The steel cables in it are stressed after curing, and that pressure keeps hairline cracks from creeping. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix finishes the surface, with lines at 20 by 44 feet and a kitchen in its own color.
On a terrace, a ball that clears the edge drops a long way, so fencing along the open side is worth having. Bountiful is about 56 miles north of our Northern Utah crew in Mapleton, and the estimate is free.

Can a court go on one level of a terraced yard?
Often. A single court needs about 30 by 60 feet of level ground. We measure the terrace, check the walls and drainage, and tell you whether it can be widened or leveled.
What about water coming down from the terraces above?
It has to go around the court. We grade the pad and, where needed, add subsurface drainage to carry runoff past it.
Do we need fencing on a terrace?
On the open, downhill side it saves a long walk after every missed ball. Chain-link court fencing can run on that side or all the way around.
Will you come to Bountiful for an estimate?
Yes, and it is free. We will walk the terraces with you and tell you which level suits a court.
