Tennis Court Resurfacing in Eagle Mountain, UT

Eagle Mountain courts sit in full sun with almost no shade. That fades them quickly, and it also means a resurfacing has to dodge the hottest stretch of summer, when acrylic dries too fast to cure well.

Too hot to coat? Timing an Eagle Mountain recoat

Out on the open benches of Eagle Mountain, a tennis court bakes. There are few tall trees, the sun reaches the surface from morning to evening, and on a July afternoon the court itself can be far hotter than the air. Color fades, lines turn gray, and the texture wears smooth sooner than on a shaded court.

Heat is also why timing matters for a resurfacing here. Acrylic coatings need moderate temperatures. On a very hot surface they dry on top before they have cured underneath, and that leaves a weaker finish. So we plan Eagle Mountain resurfacing for spring and fall, when the days are mild and the slab is not baking in full sun.

The work runs in the usual order, just on cooler days: a thorough wash, crack and low-spot repair, a base of acrylic resurfacer, the color coats, and finally fresh regulation lines painted sharp. In a place this sunny, lighter colors are worth considering because they stay cooler underfoot, and windscreens cut the steady wind that blows across the bench.

From our Northern Utah crew's base in Mapleton, Eagle Mountain is about 27 miles. Estimates are free.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Eagle Mountain

Why not resurface our Eagle Mountain court in July?

A sun-baked court can be too hot for acrylic to cure properly. The coating skins over on top before it sets below. Spring and fall give the new surface a sounder finish.

How hot does an unshaded court get?

Much hotter than the air on a sunny afternoon, especially in dark colors. That is hard on players' feet and on the coating itself.

Can we cool the court down with color?

Lighter shades absorb less sun than dark ones, so they stay noticeably cooler to stand on. Try light and dark combinations side by side in the court designer on our home page.

Is Eagle Mountain on your crew's route?

Yes. Our Northern Utah crew covers Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs and Lehi from its base in Mapleton.
