Half court or full court in Draper

Some Draper lots, especially toward Corner Canyon and up the east bench, have room most Salt Lake Valley yards don't. That raises a question families in smaller yards never face: a half court, or the whole thing?

A full court has a hoop at each end. College and NBA courts are 94 by 50 feet, high school courts are 84 by 50, and a backyard full court can be built shorter than either while keeping real-size keys. A half court is the key, the arc and one hoop on a compact slab, and plenty of families with space still choose it, because it leaves room for the rest of the yard.

Whichever you pick, the order of work doesn't change. We walk the site, excavate and grade the pad so water runs off, then pour a post-tension concrete slab with steel cables tightened after it cures, and coat it in Sports Master acrylic, sand mixed in for footing, in whatever colors you land on. Up toward SunCrest, where snow lingers longer, the slab and a good drainage plan matter even more.

A full court opens up full-court games, a scoreboard and timer, and courtside benches, and Dominator LED lights can cover a long court evenly. Our Northern Utah crew comes from Mapleton, about 32 miles away, and the estimate is free.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Draper

How big is a full basketball court?

College and NBA courts are 94 by 50 feet; high school courts are 84 by 50. A backyard full court can be shorter while keeping real-size keys at each end.

Is a half court enough for real games?

For most backyard play, yes. Half-court games, shooting practice and three-on-three all happen at one hoop, and the slab leaves more of the yard free.

Can a Draper court up near SunCrest handle the snow?

Yes. The post-tension slab and the grading are what carry a court through snow and spring melt, and we plan both for where your yard sits.

What extras make sense on a full court?

A second hoop, a scoreboard and timer, courtside benches and LED lights for evening games are the usual additions.
