Pickleball Court Installation in Draper, UT

A pickleball weighs less than an ounce, and the wind that carries paragliders off the Point of the Mountain moves it easily. In Draper, we plan the court around the breeze.

Pickleball in Draper's wind

Draper is windy in a way much of the valley is not. The breeze that brings paragliders to the Point of the Mountain also reaches backyards across the city, and a plastic pickleball with holes in it is light enough to drift on a gust. That changes how a court here should be set up.

Windscreens are the first answer. Fastened to chain-link court fencing, they cut the wind across the court and the glare off nearby surfaces, and they can carry your name or logo. A permanent net on sleeve-set posts matters here too, since a portable net is easier for a gust to tip.

The rest is the same careful build we do anywhere. We walk the site, excavate, and grade the base so water runs off; for yards up toward SunCrest, where lots sit on the ridge, that grading often has to deal with slope as well. The slab is post-tension concrete, and the surface is Sports Master acrylic sand-mix with regulation lines, the kitchen marked 7 feet back from the net on both sides of a 20-by-44 court.

Choose colors for the court, the kitchen and the border, and add Dominator LED lights for evening games. Draper is a 32-mile run up I-15 for our Northern Utah crew out of Mapleton, and the estimate costs you nothing.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Draper

Does wind really affect pickleball?

More than most games. The ball is light plastic with holes, so a gust can push it off line. Windscreens on the fence make a real difference on breezy Draper afternoons.

Can windscreens show our name?

Yes. Windscreens with your logo or family name go on the chain-link fencing, cutting wind and glare at the same time.

We live near SunCrest. Is that a different job?

It can be. Ridge lots often slope, so the site walk focuses on grading a level pad and moving water around the court. We plan that before the estimate.

Will a portable net work in Draper?

It works, but a permanent net on sleeve-set posts stays put on a windy day and is always ready to play. A portable net is handy for a second court or a driveway.
