A Herriman hoop that grows with the kids
Herriman is a young city, full of new homes and young families, and young kids shooting at a 10-foot rim mostly practice heaving the ball as hard as they can. A hoop they can actually score on keeps them out on the court.
That is what an in-ground adjustable hoop is for. A pinlock lets you set the rim lower for a first grader and move it up a notch at a time, until it sits at regulation height for a high schooler. Kids and adults share the same hoop, and nobody needs a second one. A breakaway rim can come later, once someone in the house starts hanging on it.
The rest of the court is built for years of that growing up. We excavate and grade the pad so water runs off, pour a post-tension concrete slab with steel cables pulled tight after it cures, and finish it in Sports Master acrylic sand-mix. Pole and backboard pads cushion the post where small players run into it.
If your yard is still bare, putting the court in before the lawn and trees saves tearing up new landscaping later. Herriman is roughly 36 miles from the Mapleton shop our northern crew works out of. How does an adjustable basketball hoop work?
A pinlock sets the rim height. Lower it for young kids, raise it as they grow, and lock it at regulation height when they are ready.
Is a court worth building while our kids are little?
It can be. With an adjustable hoop the same court serves a kindergartner and a high schooler, and the slab and surface are built to last through all of it.
Do pole pads matter for small kids?
They help. Young players run into the post more than anyone, and pole and backboard pads cushion the spots where they land and collide.
Should the court go in before or after landscaping in a new Herriman home?
