From the Murray garage hoop to a real court
Murray is one of the valley's older cities, and a lot of its homes came with a hoop bolted above the garage door. Those hoops did their job, but the ball rattles the siding, the rim sits wherever the roofline puts it, and every rebound heads for the car.
An in-ground hoop on its own court fixes all three. The pole stands in the ground instead of hanging off the house, so the backboard is square to the court and the rim sits where you set it. With a pinlock adjustable hoop that height can change as players grow; a fixed regulation hoop stays at 10 feet for older shooters.
Moving the hoop away from the house also moves the noise and the stray balls. Set the court where a miss hits fence or lawn instead of a window, and add chain-link court fencing if the yard backs onto a street or an alley.
The court beneath it is built from the ground up: dug and shaped so water runs off, a slab post-tensioned with steel cables so cracks stay tight, and Sports Master acrylic sand-mix on top with the key and arc in contrasting paint. Why trade a garage hoop for an in-ground one?
An in-ground hoop stands square to its own court, keeps the ball off the house and the cars, and lets you set the rim height where you want it.
Does the old garage hoop have to come down?
No. Some families keep it as a second shooting spot. It has no effect on the new court.
What pole sizes does the hoop anchor kit fit?
