A West Valley City court in your own colors

West Valley City is Utah's second-largest city, and plenty of its backyards have room for more than a lawn. A basketball court is one of the most-used things you can put there, especially when it looks like it belongs to your family.

Color is where a court starts to feel like yours. The playing area, the key and the border can each be a different Sports Master acrylic color, so you can paint the key in a school's colors or keep the whole court quiet and neutral. A logo or family name can be painted into the surface at center court or just beyond the arc.

Under the color is the part you won't see. We walk the site, excavate, and grade the pad so rain and snowmelt run off instead of sitting in the key. The slab is post-tension concrete, with steel cables tightened once it cures so small cracks stay shut. The acrylic goes on over it with sand in the mix for grip.

Then the hoop. An in-ground adjustable hoop lets younger players shoot at a lower rim and move it up as they grow, while a fixed regulation hoop stays at 10 feet. Pole and backboard pads protect players who drive to the basket. West Valley City is about 46 miles north of the Mapleton yard where our northern crew starts each day, and estimates here are free.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in West Valley City

Can the key be a different color from the rest of the court?

Yes. Most courts use two or three colors: one for the playing area, one for the key and one for the border. We show you combinations before anything is painted.

Where does a logo go on a West Valley City court?

Usually at center court on a full court, or out past the arc on a half court, where feet and balls wear it less. It is painted into the acrylic surface, not stuck on.

Do we need pads on the hoop pole?

They are a good idea when players drive hard to the basket or when small kids play near the post. Pole and backboard pads cushion the spots where players land and collide.

Who comes out to build a West Valley City court?

It drives up from Mapleton, roughly 46 miles south, and works all over the Salt Lake Valley, building new courts and redoing tired ones.
