A Kaysville pickleball court for friendly tournaments

Pickleball is a social game, and in a town like Kaysville, where neighbors know each other, a backyard court rarely stays a family secret for long. Before long there is a round-robin on Saturday and a ladder that runs all summer. It is worth building the court for that from the start.

A scoreboard and timer keep competitive games honest, a courtside bench gives the next team somewhere to wait, and Dominator LED lights with a timer let the last match finish after dark. Chain-link fencing with windscreens keeps balls on the court while spectators stand close.

The court itself follows the rules: lines at 20 by 44 feet and a 7-foot kitchen on both sides of the net, painted over Sports Master acrylic sand-mix. We excavate, grade for drainage and pour a post-tension slab whose internal cables are tightened after curing, which keeps small cracks from spreading.

If the court will host a lot of play, ask about two courts side by side, so one game can start while another finishes. A scoreboard on each keeps the brackets straight. Kaysville sits around 66 miles up the freeway from Mapleton, where our Northern Utah crew is based; there is no charge for the estimate.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Kaysville

Can we add a scoreboard to a backyard court?

Yes. A scoreboard and timer is one of our add-ons, handy once family games turn into weekend round-robins.

How do we keep games going after dark?

Dominator LED court lights light the court evenly, and a timer or remote shuts them off when the last match ends.

Is a regulation court necessary for casual play?

It helps. Regulation lines, a 20-by-44 court with 7-foot kitchens, mean the game at home matches the game anywhere else your players compete.

How far is Kaysville from your crew?

About 66 miles. Our Northern Utah crew is based in Mapleton and builds across Davis County, including Layton and Farmington.
