Pickleball Court Installation in Salt Lake City, UT

A pickleball court needs far less ground than tennis, which is why it fits Salt Lake City lots that never had room for a court. We plan it around your yard, your gate and your neighbors.

A Salt Lake City pickleball court on a city lot

The lines of a pickleball court cover 20 by 44 feet, and with room to move around them a single court wants a space close to 30 by 60. In Salt Lake City that might be the back half of a deep east bench lot, or most of a yard in Sugar House or the Avenues, where houses sit close and every foot is spoken for.

Getting there is part of the plan. Older neighborhoods often have a narrow side gate, a detached garage or an alley out back, and that changes how the digging and the concrete reach the yard. It is one reason we walk the site before we draw anything. Then we grade the pad with a slope that sends water off the court, and pour a post-tension slab: cables inside are tightened once the concrete cures, which keeps hairline cracks from opening.

On top goes Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in your colors. A kitchen in a shade that contrasts with the rest of the court makes the non-volley line easy to read, and the lines are painted to regulation. Choose a permanent net on sleeve-set posts, or a portable one if the slab also has to serve as a patio.

City lots put the neighbors close, so we talk through fencing and lights before the pour. Estimates are free, and our Northern Utah crew comes up from its Mapleton base, about 47 miles south.

Supreme Custom Courts, and specifically Ola, we're wonderful. I called Supreme with what turned out to be a simple question on how to "fix" something on our Dominator hoop. About 10 minutes later Ola was at our house and two minutes later the problem was "fixed."

Questions

Asked in Salt Lake City

How much yard does a pickleball court need in Salt Lake City?

The court itself is 20 by 44 feet, including the 7-foot kitchen on each side of the net. Plan on about 30 by 60 feet for one court so players can move past the lines. We measure your yard and show you what fits.

Can the court double as a patio?

Yes. A portable net comes off the slab when you want the space back, and the acrylic surface is comfortable to walk and sit on. A permanent net on sleeve-set posts suits a court that is mostly for play.

Our only access is a narrow gate. Can you still build?

Often, yes. We look at the gate, the alley and the driveway during the site walk and plan the excavation and concrete around them before we quote.

Where does your crew come from for a Salt Lake City job?

The Northern Utah crew makes the trip up from Mapleton, roughly 47 miles. It works all over Salt Lake County, so a city lot is familiar ground.
