A West Valley City court that has seen a lot of sun
As Utah's second-largest city, West Valley City has tennis courts everywhere from family backyards to the shared courts of townhome and condo communities. On this side of the valley there is not much shade. A court takes full sun from morning until evening, and after enough summers the color fades and the surface turns slick where the texture has worn away.
That worn texture matters more than the color. Acrylic court surfaces are made with sand in them so shoes grip and the ball bounces true. When the grit wears off, players slide. Resurfacing puts it back. We wash the court, repair the cracks, patch the dips where water sits, then apply acrylic resurfacer and color coats with the texture built in, and paint new lines.
If a community board is deciding, we can give it a written plan: the repairs, the colors, the line layout, and whether to add pickleball lines so the same court serves both groups of players. Lighter colors are worth a look here, because they stay cooler underfoot in the July sun.
