Saving an older Salt Lake City tennis court
Some of the tennis courts behind Salt Lake City homes were paved or poured decades ago, especially on the east bench and in older neighborhoods like the Avenues and Sugar House. Many are still sound underneath. What wears out first is the top: color that has gone chalky, lines you can barely see, and cracks that open a little more each winter.
Salt Lake winters do that. Water seeps into a hairline crack, freezes, expands and pushes it wider, and by spring the crack has a lip a ball can catch. Resurfacing deals with it before the damage reaches the base. We clean the court, open and fill the cracks, and fill the low spots that hold puddles after a storm. Then come layers of acrylic resurfacer, your color coats and fresh regulation lines.
It is also the moment to change things. Plenty of families who learned tennis on that court now want pickleball too, and we can paint pickleball lines in a second color that stays out of the way of a tennis match. A new net and posts, windscreens, or Dominator LED lights for evening play can go on the same quote.

Is my Salt Lake City court too old to resurface?
Usually not. If the base under the color is solid, resurfacing renews the playing surface on top of it. Wide, shifting cracks or a base that has heaved can mean more repair first, and we will tell you which you have once we have seen it.
Why do the cracks come back after every Salt Lake winter?
Water gets into them and freezes, and each freeze pushes the crack a little wider. Repairing the cracks properly and sealing the court under new acrylic keeps water out of them, which slows that cycle down.
Can you add pickleball lines to our tennis court?
Yes. We paint them in a different color from the tennis lines so players can follow whichever game they are playing. A portable pickleball net lets you switch between the two in minutes.
When should we book a resurfacing in Salt Lake City?
Aim for spring or fall. Acrylic coatings need moderate temperatures to cure, so we stay away from the coldest and hottest stretches of the year. Calling before the season starts helps you get the dates you want.
