A Park City court for when everyone is home
Plenty of Park City homes are second homes, busy for a few weeks in summer and over the holidays and quiet the rest of the year. A basketball court at a house like that has a particular job: sit through long stretches with nobody looking after it, then be ready the day the family arrives.
That starts with the slab. Post-tension concrete has steel cables threaded through it and pulled tight after the pour hardens, so the concrete stays squeezed together and small cracks don't open while no one is watching. The pad under it is graded so snowmelt runs off rather than sitting on the court through spring.
On top goes Sports Master acrylic sand-mix. At around 7,000 feet the sun is strong, so pick colors with that much light in mind. Dominator basketball hardware is built for outdoor conditions, and Dominator LED lights on a timer let summer evenings run late without anyone remembering to switch them off.
An in-ground adjustable hoop lets visiting kids and adults share one rim, and a courtside bench and a ball rebounder round out a court that guests use as much as the family does. Park City is about 37 miles from our Mapleton base, and we walk the site for a free estimate.

Does a court need care when the house sits empty?
Very little. Sweep off what blew in when you arrive; the post-tension slab and the graded pad do their work through the months away.
Can the lights be set so nobody has to remember them?
Yes. Dominator LED lights run on a timer, switching on and off at the hours you set.
Is a court at 7,000 feet built differently?
The slab and drainage are planned for heavy snow and spring melt, and the colors are chosen knowing the sun is stronger up here.
Can kids and adults share one hoop at a vacation home?
Yes. An in-ground adjustable hoop has a pinlock, so the rim drops for kids and goes back to 10 feet for adults.
