A Saratoga Springs court that does double duty
Saratoga Springs is home to a lot of young families, and in many of its backyards the flattest, smoothest ground is about to become the court. That is a good thing. When the net is down, the same acrylic surface is a place for scooters, roller skates, chalk drawings and a game of four square, so the court earns its space every day, not just on game nights.
A few choices make a court better at double duty. A portable net comes off quickly and leaves open slab; a permanent net on sleeve-set posts suits families who play pickleball most days. Fencing around the court keeps balls in and gives the space a clear edge, and an installed bench gives parents a seat at the side.
Because many lots here are newer and compact, we plan the layout carefully: one court is drawn 20 feet by 44, inside a play area of roughly 30 by 60. We excavate, grade the pad to shed water, and pour a post-tension slab with steel cables stressed after curing to hold small cracks shut. Sports Master acrylic sand-mix in bright or quiet colors goes on top.

Can the kids use the court for other things?
Yes. With the net off, the acrylic surface works well for scooters, skates, chalk and ball games.
Portable or permanent net for a family court?
If the slab will be a play space most days, a portable net that lifts off is handy. If pickleball is the main event, sleeve-set posts and a permanent net are simpler.
Will a pickleball court fit our compact yard?
Often. One court's full play area is about 30 by 60 feet. We measure and lay it out with you before anything is dug.
Can the court have a bench for parents?
Yes. A courtside bench can be installed along the edge, so whoever is watching has a place to sit.
