Tennis Court Resurfacing in Ogden, UT
Some older tennis courts around Ogden were paved with asphalt rather than poured in concrete. Asphalt can be resurfaced too, as long as its cracks, soft spots and puddles are dealt with first.

Resurfacing an asphalt tennis court in Ogden
Not every tennis court sits on concrete. Around Ogden, from older homes on the east bench to courts behind churches and clubhouses, some were paved with asphalt. Acrylic court coatings go over asphalt as well as concrete, so an asphalt court can be resurfaced and play well again.
Asphalt ages in its own way. Sun dries it out and turns it brittle, which shows as a web of fine cracks and loose grit at the surface. It also settles more easily than concrete, so low spots and long cracks are common. Before any color goes on, we clean the court, repair the cracks, fill the low spots, and use acrylic resurfacer to build a smooth, even base for the color coats and lines.
Some asphalt courts are too far gone, with wide cracks that run through the base or areas that have broken up. We will tell you if a resurfacing would not last. Then the answer is a new court on a post-tension concrete slab, built from the ground up.
Our Northern Utah crew is based in Mapleton, about 79 miles south, and works across Weber and Davis counties. Estimates are free for any court in Ogden.

Questions
Asked in Ogden
Can an asphalt tennis court in Ogden be resurfaced?
Yes. Acrylic court coatings stick to asphalt as well as concrete. The cracks and low spots are repaired first, then resurfacer, color coats and lines go on.
Why does our asphalt court have so many fine cracks?
Sun and weather dry asphalt out over the years, and it turns brittle. Fine cracks spread across the surface. Resurfacer fills and covers them, but wide structural cracks need separate repair.
When is an asphalt court not worth resurfacing?
When the base has broken up, sunk in large areas or cracked straight through in many places. Coatings cannot hold a failing base together, so we would talk about rebuilding instead.
Is concrete a better choice than asphalt for a new court?
For new builds we pour a post-tension concrete slab, which holds its shape and keeps cracks tight. For an existing asphalt court in good shape, resurfacing is the practical choice.
